PRECIOUS METALS – WORTH THE HYPE?

Sleek Precious Metals Review – Is it really worth the blogging hype?

precious metals highlighter review

I maybe late on the band wagon – but hey at least I’m there! Sleek have been doing a mental offer recently, two items for £10 in most Superdrug stores so how could I miss this opportunity!? I have been scouring the Internet for the precious metal highlighting palette review ever since this little beauty came out. And now I’ve managed to bag myself one! But, is it really worth the hype?

I say hype… In the blogging world I feel like there has been a hell of a lot of hype surrounding this palette but my sister actually tried this when it first came out and wasn’t astounded by it so maybe that’s one reason I didn’t jump on it straight away (another being, I’ve been so skint lately ha!) anyway that said, this offer made it hard for me to resist. Let’s jump right in…

precious metals highlighter review

I swatched them to show you how Pigmented each pan is. From top to bottom swatches: antique bronze, Renaissance gold, Royal gold and platinum.

sleek precious metals review

precious metals highlighter reviewFirstly, how beautiful is the packaging!? The metallic casing looks chic and expensive. I love where Sleek are going with this product it looks much more high end but keeping to a high street budget. The pans included are platinum top left, Royal gold top right, Renaissance gold bottom left and antique bronze bottoms right. All of them are cream products except the antique bronze powder in the bottom right. I have used the platinum highlight to strobe my nose length, cupids bow and to highlight underneath my brows. The staying power of this palette is good, I use a fixing spray after I’ve finished my makeup so this also might help if you do find the product sliding around. But I find if I apply it with my beauty blender in patting motions rather than sliding motions I don’t have this problem anyway.

precious metals highlighter review

100% worth the hype! It gives a gorgeous buildable highlight which you can easily control. You’ll be a shimmering fairy in no time with this product! My favourite in this palette has to be the platinum, I think it’s incredibly versatile and not like any other highlight I’ve found so far! What’s your favourite from this palette?

Hope you’re all doing fabulous. Lots of love xxx

FESTIVAL HAIR IDEAS

Check out how I style Festival Fashion – Parklife edition

Hey guys!

This is long overdue. I’m sorry – life’s taken over the past few weeks, I’ve started a new job (yay!) which I’m gratefully loving, new career, new direction so I’ve been mega busy and my blog has been getting some weekly loving but nowhere near as much as I was posting 😦 I do have reasons as well as me starting a new job! Something very exciting has come up – I was contacted by the lovely managing editor of julietturnsthepage.com to write for her website which I’m SUPER excited about! You can have a little nosey at my profile here

It would be amazing if you could show me some love over there 🙂

I’m also trying to step up my game with YouTube at the minute, I have lots of ideas of new vids coming up so make sure you don’t miss me…..!

Anyway… Let’s get to the nitty gritty it’s what you all came here for 😉 – Festival season is upon us and my first one this month was Parklife, Manchester. It featured chemical brothers, Hannah wants, Jamie XX, Jasper Jones, Katy B, DJ Koze, Meme and LOADS more. I couldn’t help but take the opportunity to dress up as a glitter fairy (yeah yeah I know this look may have been over done BUT I LOVE IT MAN!).

GLITTER ME UP

I started with the glitter hair fashion statement. I mixed up fustian glitter with silver glitter and wet look hair gel. I popped half my hair up into a bobble and slapped on the glitter to my routes! This look was inspired by Tasha Leelyn on YouTube which I’m sure you’ve had the pleasure of watching already!

GLITTER BINDI

I took some tiny coloured gems which I found in the £1 shop! Now, this is where I improvised and got creative. I added 3 gems to the middle of my forehand and added silvery glitter around them sticking them on with eyelash glue! I say the spontaneous the better that way you will create a super individual look to suit your own style. Go crazy with colour and you’ll stand out from the crowd!

I had a cracking time at Parklife – did any of my lovely readers attend? And are any of you guys planning any other festivals this year?
Lots of love xxxx

5 simple steps: how to organise your makeup bag to have happy, healthy skin.

Guest post by Zara Lewis

Why not declutter your makeup bag to become a beauty friendly zone?

Everybody knows the importance of using eco-friendly products which are good for the health of our planet, but what about our own health? With every aspect of life being practically ‘poisoned’ with genetically modified food, artificial ingredients, and synthetic products, it is extremely difficult to live a truly healthy life, but that doesn’t mean we should not try. Eating clean we can manage, but what about makeup?

Clean up – seriously!

Throw everything out – on the table, of course, and wash the empty bag (hand wash if necessary, and throw in washing machine if not).  While the bag is drying, take a good look at everything you have spread all over the table or counter. Anything that leaks or looks broken should leave your makeup bag immediately. Old mascaras which are dry already? Old foundations even though you have new ones? More than 3 eyeliners? Out with them and good riddance! Six packages of eye shadows that fall apart and smell funny? You should switch to organic eye shadow instead, it’s much healthier and easier to use. Dirty old makeup you seldom use is the perfect place for bacteria to grow, and you don’t want that on your face, do you?

Make your own lip balm

Make your own lip balm DIY

We all have a lip balm in your makeup bags, but we seldom look at the labels. If you want to steer clear of chemical-ridden lip glosses and lip balms, make your own using only four ingredients:

  • Mango or cocoa butter (2 tablespoons)
  • Virgin coconut oil (2 tablespoons)
  • Beeswax, shredded (2 tablespoons)
  • Vanilla extract (1 tsp)

Mix all ingredients except vanilla in a mason jar, and place it in water which you slowly heat so that oil and wax melt. Once melted, add vanilla and pour into lip balm containers.

Protect your hands

We tend to forget about our hands until they become dry and itchy, and then it takes them long to recover. Many women choose to carry hand moisturisers in their bad, but not in their makeup bags, so when the change handbags it stays forgotten. Find a healthy hand moisturiser that supports skin’s natural moisturising factor which is perfect for staying hydrated and well protected.

Stay (healthily) covered

By using primer, foundation, bronzer, and highlighter you are definitely clogging your pores and damaging your skin (not to mention clogging your makeup bag as well!). So try swapping them for a healthier option and try mineral foundations instead. Not only are these natural and extremely good for all skin types, but they cover our skin wonderfully and give it a health glow. Today you have much more foundations on the market and you can choose loose powders, tinted moisturisers, and liquids.

Keep your brushes in order

Sleek Makeu Brushes review
Photographed by Imogen Howkins

It doesn’t really matter whether you use natural or synthetic brushes or what brand name is written on the handle, the most important things is to keep them clean. If you are worried about using too aggressive chemicals which might get stuck between bristles, you can use simple ingredients which are more than effective: dish soap and olive oil. Mix two liquids together and work wet brush into the mixture, rinse thoroughly while gently squeezing so that water reaches every bristle, and leave to air dry (handle should be higher than bristles). If you use sponges, wash them with soap at least once a week.

MAKEUP BRUSHES WHAT TO BUY

Decluttering your makeup bag is not easy, especially if you are a beauty addict who is in love with every single one of her eyeliners, lipsticks, and nail polishes, but you have to draw a line somewhere and get rid of things you no longer use. Don’t forget that consistency is the key – keep your makeup bag clean and your skin healthy, clean up the clutter which will inevitably show up at least twice a year, and make sure you only use products that are not past their expiration date.

YOU NEED TO TRY THIS! DIY BLACK HEAD FACE MASK

DIY Blackhead Peel Face Mask – Easy Recipe

DIY Black head removal peel off face mask and demo.

The latest makeup trends of 2016 include baking, strobing and highlighting your face to look like you have beautiful glowing skin. But where does these trends start beauties? SKINCARE! Piling on concealer, foundation, primer, contour creams and highlighters can clog up those pores leaving your skin your worst enemy! So every once a week we should really pamper our faces, renew our dead skin cells and get rid of unnecessary clogged up pores. I have seen peel off face masks everywhere claiming to remove black heads at a hefty price. Now if the product does what it says on the tin then it’s worth paying for, but what if I told you you could get the same affect for under £5 !?

Want super soft blackhead free skin? Try this affordable DIY face mask.

Please everyone don’t forget to use non toxic children’s school glue, also remember everyones skin type is different so please do a small patch test before putting anything onto your body.

It would be amazing if you could share the love and subscribe lovelies 😀

YOU WILL NEED:

  • Children’s Non-toxic glue
  • Activated charcoal
  • Mixing bowl and mixing brush

DIRECTIONS:

Pop a table spoon of glue into a bowl. Add around 2 table spoons of charcoal and mix into a smooth consistency. Pop it onto your face for around 30 mins (you can use a hair dryer to speed up the process). Peel off from the bottom upwards and avoid right under the eyes as this area of skin is a lot thinner than the rest of your face.

You will find silky soft black head free skin underneath! Give it a go now!

HOLLYWOOD GLAM – MAKE UP LOOK

Hollywood Glamour Makeup Look // Drug Store Products

I very rarely go without a winged eye, so when I thought about my next makeup look to post, the Hollywood Glamour look was a no brainer! Hollywood Glam can be very sophisticated, and a red lip always adds a little something extra to an outfit. I decided to go with an extra smokey eye for a slightly edgy look. OH and I filmed it tehe! I’ve wanted to film for my YouTube channel for years.. just never really faced up to uploading but once RACHEL from rachelramblingon.wordpress.com and ROSHNI from roshnimistry.com gave me a little supportive push I thought I would finally pluck up the courage to post this vid I filmed last week!(Thanks Girlies :D)

WHAT HAPPENED TO MY SKIN?

Forever Living

I love hunting round for amazing skincare, and I love testing out different brands to see what suits my skin type and of course to help anyone else who’s looking for new options too 🙂 I have combination skin, I have dry areas, but throughout the day some areas on my face tend to get quite oily. So what happened to my skin as a result of this skincare…

Sonya Nourishing Skin care review

FOREVER LIVING is a brand I’d heard of before but never tried so when they got in touch with me to try out a few things I thought I’d give it a go! One of the products was from the ‘Sonya’ brand, infused with the goodness of aloe and vegan certified I was happy to try this Aloe Nourishing Serum. The other product being the Forever Aloe Lips with Jojoba.
The Aloe Nourishing Serum(£34.69) is a day and night serum. I applied this after applying my toner, morning and night. The scent is a fresh citrus smell, very lightweight and pleasant. I wouldn’t say the scent is too overpowering for those of you who don’t like perfumed creams but the citrus scent is definitely noticeable. I have dry skin, especially on my chin, upper lip and nose. This serum contains White Tea extract which is suppose to keep your skin looking younger by protecting it from damage. Researchers believe that the antioxidants reduce oxidative stress to the skin. When I applied the cream I found the product took well to my skin leaving little excess product – my skin seemed to suck in all the nourishment! The packaging is very simple, nothing special but perfect for sitting amongst other products in the bathroom.
Forever Living Aloe Lips Skin Care Review
The Forever Aloe Lips* (£2.99) lip balm is super moisturising. I seem to get dry lips after using a lot of lip  care products so this was a real test to see if this product actually did any good..And, Product did good! I was amazed because usually after using some popular big branded lip products I’ve found my lips to be in a worse state after using a product, but not with this one! I’m left with super hydrated lips and the scent is a very subtle, sweet smell. This product is definitely worth the affordable price!

I love this dramatic smokey eye look. It’s neutral and bronze tones look subtle but for me, the Purple Urban Decay colour on the water line makes this look extra sassy. INSULTED BY A SALES ASSISTANT?

Story time, sales assistant insulted me in Superdrug? Makeup Revolution review

Funny story to this post (actually, maybe just awkward) I was after some colour popping lippys to make a bland outfit sassy. So I hit up Superdrug in search of a vibrant lipstick…

EDITED MAIN.jpg

I came across the Amazing Lipstick Makeup Revolution range which is super affordable. Immediately I picked up the most colourful ones ‘crime’ (Fuchsia), ‘depraved’ (purple) and ‘vice’ (a gorgeous bright orange which typically, I couldn’t find while writing this post) from their range. No shopping basket in hand, I bundled all of my favs into my arms whilst the shop assistant was still stocking up the range. She turned to another staff member and said ‘Who would even buy this range?, look at this orange lipstick it’s way too bright for everyday wear!’ I glanced down at my products and laughed a little inside.

WHO WOULD EVEN WEAR THAT COLOUR LIPSTICK-

Firstly, I thought that it was pretty unprofessional of her to be saying that in front of customers (especially customers purchasing the products she’s slagging off ha) and secondly, Why shouldn’t they be for everyday wear? Adding a fun pop of colour to your lip can cheer you up, especially when you live in the rainy North, Manchester people you know the struggle!

Anyway besides the sales assistants disapproval, you guessed it I bought them all!

So let’s all …

Makeup revolution lime crime dupe

TOP TIP:
While these dry, I make sure NOT to press my lips together, or blot them or anything of that sort. Basically I don’t move my lips at all while these dry because any contact with the lacquer during the 30 seconds right after application will mess it up.

Here’s a photo of me wearing the Depraved lipstick with a top coat of velvet depravity – salvation velvet lacquer. It’s super affordable at £3 and is a great lime crime dupe. Staying power is good lasted all day for me. These are extremely pigmented, and dry totally matte. I feel like the best way to wear these for me has been to use the tiniest bit possible otherwise it can feel too heavy and uncomfortable.

GET TO KNOW ME

25 Questions Get to Know Me ♥

IMOGEN TWITTER HEADER

I love getting to know other bloggers (mainly because I’m nosey) and I haven’t written a get to know me tag yet so here goes…

1. What is your middle name?:

Rose, My name is Imogen Rose (Felt like a 007 agent saying that)

2. What was favourite subject at school?:

Art, I’m not afraid to say I wasn’t very academic at school – I’m more the creative type.

Canon camera Photographer

3. What is your favourite drink?:

Hmm, Are we talking alcoholic or non alcoholic? If we’re talking alcohol, I’ve just started to LOVE red wine which is weird because I used to hate it or gin, I love gin! My non alcoholic drink would be peppermint tea.

Hmm, I rarely have a ‘favourite’ song but I mentioned in my February Favourites I have been loving James Bay – Let it go recently.
